Bluebells Deli Kitchen & Cakerie on Upper Green Lane in Hove Edge offers a cozy, unhurried café experience that’s deeply rooted in its local community. This spot balances the warmth of a traditional English tearoom with a slightly eclectic menu that hints at Mediterranean influences—think Greek salad alongside classic Bakewell cake and chocolate brownies.

Locals seem to gravitate here for moments when a casual coffee break or a relaxed weekend outing calls for something a little more thoughtful than the usual chain offering. The café’s atmosphere has a quietly comforting feel, where people come to enjoy fresh-baked comfort cakes paired with quality English leaf tea or a well-made coffee. It's not surprising that visitors often linger after a quick coffee when tempted by the selection of homemade treats, especially the bakehouse staples like streusel or their selection of cakes, including wedding and birthday specialties.

This is a place where you might drop by on a slow weekday afternoon or during weekends when families come in for a wander and end up trying one of the best brownies around, according to several local accounts. It’s popular enough that waiting a few minutes can be part of the routine, especially when the kitchen is busy prepping for catering orders or local events.

Bluebells also has a reputation within the community for catering—whether for significant family occasions like funerals or large gatherings—serving generous, well-received smörgåsbords and buffets where homemade touches like raspberry jam on scones don’t go unnoticed.

One practical note: the café’s opening hours may be somewhat unpredictable at times, so planning visits with a quick call ahead might save a wasted trip. But when open, Bluebells rewards visitors with quality and care that reflect a genuine neighborhood café rather than a formulaic chain.

Who will appreciate Bluebells most? Anyone looking to combine a quiet café vibe with freshly prepared cakes and a touch of local flavor—perfect for families, casual catch-ups, or those seeking a thoughtful catering partner nearby. Best times to visit are likely mid-mornings or early afternoons when the kitchen is freshest and the staff have time to engage.

If this place is open it's great. Leaving a review as a note of caution. I've walked and deiven out of my way to come here but it's been closed during opening hours on three separate occasions this year. I rarely come as much but tried again, closed. Edit after reponse - should be open again from Tuesday 25th Nov 2025. I must just be terribly unlucky every time I visit as I generally do love Bluebells and don't leave a slightly negative review lightly. I don't follow Bluebells on socials hence not following "live" opening times.

Bluebells came recommended when we needed somone to cater for my father's funeral. Many of those attending commented on how fantastic the buffet was, especially the cakes. Was that homemade raspberry jam on the delicious scones? We catered for 100 and there were well over that in attendance and plenty left over that people took for their journeys home. Thank you Sacha. Top notch.

Took my kids there today for a wander around, happened across this beautiful little cafe and had the opportunity to try some of the best brownies we've ever eaten!! I cannot recommend them enough and the lady who served us was nothing short of delightful, even though it was super close to closing time!

Brighouse best kept secret! They often say ‘Best things come in small packages’ well the Bluebell Deli Kitchen is just that. Super comfort cakes, great coffee & leaf tea all passionately prepared. You might have to wait a few minutes as it’s often busy but the wait more than makes up for it! Passionate about food then this is one not to miss, we were visiting the area and stumbled across the Bluebell. The Gourmet Beef sandwich, rates as one of the best I’ve ever eaten. Thank you Bluebell family for such a great experience.

Stan and I would like to thank Karen for providing a fantastic afternoon tea for my 80th birthday. All our guests were very impressed. The birthday cake was delicious and the biggest I have ever seen.
